Still more fairytales!
Kate Danely’s The Woodcutter was surprising, atmospheric, and compelling. The Woodcutter, titular character in this story and common theme in classic tales, sets out to investigate what is awry in the Fae lands before it destroys not only them, but the human lands as well.
It is a relentless plot, moving faster and faster as the chapters go by, with the stakes steadily climbing. I was out of breath by the end. You get thrown right into the action, with little exposition, but it works with the tension of the story. Danely weaves archetypes skillfully and turns some on their heads.
Definitely recommend!
