I love murder mysteries. I love historical fiction. Thus, I love historical murder mysteries.
The Sebastian St. Cyr series is one of the best. When I saw there were over 15 of them, I was skeptical. Wouldn’t they be repetitive? Predictable?
Nope. Harris sets her narrative during the tumultuous Napoleonic Wars, skillfully weaving historical fact and figures with historical fiction and characters. We’ve watched Viscount Devlin wade through crime, betrayal, murder attempts, and marriage to his one-time enemy.
The crimes are brutal and riveting, the twists interesting. I highly recommend this series. I am enjoying these later books more than the early ones.
